How to Make an Entrance

Posted in Happiness by humanresourcespufnstuf on June 24, 2009

Let’s have a little fun today!  Yesterday Ben Eubanks (who you should all be following on Twitter and reading is blog) started a discussion about what iPhone apps you’d like as an HR professional, to which I tweeted that I’d like an app that would automatically play intro music for me when I walk in a room.  Trish (The HRRingleader, whom you should also follow on Twitter and read her blog) and I began to discuss what our intro music would be.  I of course went with the HR Pufnstuf Theme:

H.R. Pufnstuf,
Who’s your friend when things get rough?
H.R. Pufnstuf
Can’t do a little cause he can’t do enough.

She was leaning towards Circus by Brittany Spears.

My question to you is what would your intro music be?  Would it change based on the situation?  What would it definitely not be?

    For entrance music, it’s either:
    -”Walk” from Pantera
-”Perfect Strangers” by Deep Purple or
    -”The Energy” by Audiovent

Depends on what mood I’m in.

    For closing:
-”Bleed the Freak” by Alice in Chains

I know what music I won’t choose: Anything poppy or country.

“Walk” scares the crap out of me…but that’s probably because I’ve only heard it when this one guy sings it TERRIBLY at karaoke night.

It is metal, but Karaoking Metal = go to the next bar.

    Great idea!

It think it would vary, but for some reason the Darth Vadar theme music comes to mind as an all purpose HR intro.

This could take me a very long time to think about. I do think that the song would change depending on the situation (work vs. play). And also, is it equally about the lyrics and music, or does one weigh more heavily than the other?

Alright…time to think about this while I get the paychecks ready to mail out. :)

Oh….good topic. So much better than pickles……

From a work perspective I’d like to say it would be something inspirational and action orientated like “Move any Mountain” by the Shamen. In reality its probably, more along the lines of “Mouthful of sh*t” by Chumbawumba or “Shaddap You Face” by Joe Dolce.

On a personal level maybe “Waiting for the Great Leap Forward” by Billy Bragg or “Only one way” by Karine Polwart.

I came over to say the samething Julie said but since she’s already said it I guess I need some new material….

Most Mondays would be Manic Monday by the Bangels (I dont do Mondays well)
General intro music I might take the 1812 Overture. <–shows my band nerdiness doesnt it :) Comes in slowly but makes a point and leaves on a bang!

At this point in my life, it would probably be the Sesame Street theme song, or some other kid-themed tune.

Someday I’ll have a life (and an iPhone) and come up with something cooler.

@Tracy Tran – Metal dude, that is friggin’ close to my heart. Great drop of Perfect Strangers, I remember buying the cassette when I was 14 years old! Also, if you are ever in Cleveland (my former home) the Hi-Fi club does a great evening of metal karaoke.

@Julie – you had me at Darth Vader! I have a robotic Darth Vader on my desk that plays that theme – if I ever figure out how to post video I’ll get that up.

@MeredithElaine – I totally expect an answer by the end of the week. You are our resident music maven, so bring it sistah!

@TheHRD – am I going to have to declare this a gherkin free zone ;-) Great list, but based on some of the “challanges” you face, what about Iron Man by Black Sabbath, or if you want to mess with folks, what about Am I Evil by Diamondhead (sorry, you’re British, so I had to keep it to British bands)

@adowling – Love the 1812 overture, also if you want to incorporate cannons (and who wouldn’t) how about For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) by AC/DC, that would certainly set an upbeat tone!

@Kerry – Don’t let anyone tell you Sesame Street isn’t cool, we’ve all spent time on that street

I’m thinking the theme song to Metalocalypse. If you don’t know what it is, check it out on adult swim.com

I should mention that the band’s drummer is named Pickles… I’m just sayin’

    @George – I will check it out.

Also, I declare a 72 hour pickle moratorium

“Blow me away” by Breaking Benjamin, for sure yo 8)

What I would never choose or don’t want to hear is Celine Dion.

  11. [...] SHRM Conference blog post, SHRM release their official song tunes on iTunes.  I know SHRM read Human Resources Puf and Stuf about music and did a great thing of releasing their general session playlist.  As for the playlist itself, [...]
